Many people have trouble getting around and so it affects how they live their lives and how they keep themselves in shape so that they don’t experience any health problems. There are a number of reasons why people might have mobility issues and it could be that you have experienced some kind of sports injury, that you have been disabled from birth or you have gotten a lot older and so things have become a lot more difficult than they used to be. Taking a walk down to the local shopping mall is not straightforward anymore and it’s likely that you have gotten yourself some mechanised assistance so that you can live life as normal as possible.

Even if you get around using one of the many mobility scooters that are currently available, you still be taking steps to get yourself up and to be leading a more productive lifestyle every single day. As we get older, it becomes increasingly more important that we build muscle mass and that we try to do some weight bearing exercises at least 2 to 3 times a week. Trying to stay mobile and doing a little bit of exercise will help you to maintain your independence so that you’re not relying on other people all the time.

If the above sounds like you and you would like to lead a more productive lifestyle then the following are some tips to help you do just that.

  1. Talk to your medical practitioner – You shouldn’t just begin a new exercise routine before talking to your doctor and they will be able to help you come up with an exercise plan that is suitable for your current health condition and a diet structure as well. They will give you advice as to how many times you need to be doing exercise each week, what exercises would be more appropriate for you and the kind of exercises that you shouldn’t be doing.
  2. Always go slowly – It’s likely that you are very keen to start doing your exercises on a regular basis but you have to remember that doing things slowly get better results over the long term. You do not want to hurt yourself at the beginning of your new workout because that might set you back weeks and then you will become totally de-motivated. You can increase your activity over time as things become easier for you.
  3. Always make time for exercise – It can be very easy to ignore the need for exercise because you have your mobility scooter and so you can get around very easily and life is good. You need to make exercise a daily habit and try to pick routines that don’t bore you too quickly. It’s perfectly fine to miss the days exercise here and there but trying to get back into your exercise routine as soon as possible.

You can even perform exercises while riding around in your mobility scooter and this will help with your overall balance as well as supporting your upper body and it is a great boost to your overall physical and mental health.
