Cancer prevention measures: how to prevent cancer

Often you have read and heard different reports about cancer, which will be opposite to each other in relation to cancer prevention. But the truth is that by making some lifestyle changes, you can keep yourself away from cancer. This will protect your life. The American Cancer Society has given some guidelines, which can help you in cancer prevention.

1. Stay away from tobacco

Never ignore tobacco and products made from it like cigarettes, bidis, gutka, hookahs etc. Harmful elements present in tobacco can lead to cancer cells. Constant tobacco use is the biggest cause of lung cancer apart from oral cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of most deaths worldwide.

2. Moderately consume alcohol

Excessive consumption of alcohol can damage your kidney and liver. It can cause cancer. Experts also refuse to consume alcohol. According to the American Cancer Society, if you must drink alcohol, then men should not take more than 2 pegs and women more than 1 peg.

3. Control weight and be active

Sedentary lifestyles cause many non communicable diseases. It can be the leading cause of weight gain or obesity and obesity is considered to be the biggest cause of diseases like heart disease and cancer. At least 75 minutes of heavy workouts or 150 minutes of normal workouts should be done in a week. They protect you from cancer.

4. Healthy eating is important

A healthy body is created by a healthy diet. If you want to keep yourself away from diseases like cancer, then stay away from unhealthy foods (fast food, fried foods, alcohol, soft drinks, red and processed meats etc.). By consuming whole grains with seasonal fruits and vegetables in your diet, you can keep yourself free from diseases.

5. Protect the skin from sunlight

We are often told that ‘we get vitamin D from the sun’s rays’. But it also has its side effects. If you take sunbath at sunrise then it is better for your health, but when you are sunny all day ie from 10 am to 4 pm (most of the time) then it can lead to skin cancer. So while venturing out in the sun, cover yourself properly, use a circular cap on the head, use sunscreen, and use sunglasses to protect the eyes from UV rays.

6. Regular Checkup Proper eating, regular exercise, protection from the sun’s harmful rays, distance from alcohol and tobacco are the most important ‘regular health checkups’. Under this, you can identify the symptoms of the body and consult the doctor concerned. You can also get ‘cancer screening test’ according to the expert’s suggestions to avoid cancer. Experts agree that screening test is necessary from time to time.
